Colonialism in a Global and Historical Context

Braemar College Grade 12 World History and  Grade 12 World Issues students travelled to Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum. They explored the museum’s galleries with an emphasis on Canada’s own colonial history. Students were treated to different gallery artifacts, group activity, and discussion.  They then had the opportunity to experience and learn, in additional exhibits after their gallery lesson.

“History is filled with various examples of empires and colonial powers around the globe. What lessons can we draw from the past as we move into the future? In this lesson with a Museum Educator or Indigenous Museum Educator students will learn about a variety of different empires and colonies throughout history and discuss parallels to the land we now call Canada. Students will start to develop a class plan of action of how to engage with these issues in their communities.” – Royal Ontario Museum – https://www.rom.on.ca/en
