Group Programs

An Experienced Provider

For many years Braemar College has welcome student groups from around the world, including Spain, France, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Vietnam and China. These groups chose Braemar because they were looking for:

  • an enriching short-term Canadian high school experience that takes into account the needs of international students
  • a learning experience that is more than the usual camp
  • a group program in an exciting cosmopolitan city
  • a partner that can customize the whole school experience

The Program You Want

Because not every group is the same, we work closely with you to customize the experience you are looking for.

High school groups, for instance, can be mixed into our classes according to the interest and ability of each student. This is a fantastic way for international students to experience what high school in Canada is like.

Alternatively, groups could be taught separately, and the curriculum could be customized based on the needs or interest of the group.

Academics

We are happy to customize the curriculum based on the interest of the group. For some groups, we have taught the Ontario high school curriculum on a non-credit basis. For others, we have designed specialized non-credit courses based on the specific interests of the group.

Each school day consists of five or six (during the summer) hours of classes. Students choose two courses, taking into account the level of study achieved and the placement test results.

All levels of English are available, from all day ESL courses for absolute beginners to courses for students ready to tackle Shakespeare and Mary Shelley.  All our credit courses are based on the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum.

Activities

Toronto is an exciting city, full of fun things to do and see. We are happy to work with our groups to include a wide range of trips and activities.

All participants of our group programs  are warmly invited to take part in a range of club and after school activities. You can learn more, and see our Director of Student Experience talking about his programing, in this video.

Accommodation

Homestay Option

We work with our own network of Canadian homestay families. Homestay includes a single room, three daily meals, and Wifi. It might be possible to host more than one student at the same homestay. Travel to and from school is with public transportation, and this usually takes between 40 to 50 minutes, which is normal for a big city like Toronto. The placement process begins with students providing our homestay department with detailed information about the kind of homestay they would like, as well as any dietary considerations or allergies or other health concerns our families should know about. Depending on demand, we are usually able to provide students with two or three suitable families to choose from before they travel to Canada. Residence Option

Our campus is in the downtown, on the St. George campus of the University of Toronto. There are several excellent residence options within walking distance or a short ride away on public transportation. If you would like your group to stay in a residence, it would best to start the process as early as possible.   Depending on the time of year, some of them might not be available. The residences have different options. Some residences offer a single room in a suite of 3 or 4 other students who share the living room, kitchen and washroom. Other residences have double occupancy rooms along with shared kitchen and washroom. Some of the residences include a meal plan, while in others the students would be expected to cook their meals in their own kitchens, though even in these cases there are some catering options.
