In Canada every province has its own education system. The OSSD is the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. In other words, it is the diploma students get when studying in the province of Ontario. It is accepted by universities all around the world.
The OSSD is a four-year high school diploma (grades 9 to 12). If you have completed some portion of high school in a different province or country, you would be given credit for the work you have done. So, if you have completed the equivalent of grade 10 in your home country, you would, when moving to an OSSD program, continue at the grade 11 level.
If you have completed O levels (IGCSE), you would typically be granted the equivalent of grade 11 in the Ontario system. Placement tests in math and English might slightly increase the number of credits required, but, in general, a student who has completed O levels would complete the OSSD in one academic year.
We have four terms in the academic year, which runs from September to June. We also have an additional summer term (July—term 5). The terms making up the academic year start in September, November, February, and April.
If you have completed your O levels, you can be ready for university in one academic year or less—a year faster than if you take A levels.
Your study plan is divided into terms consisting of two courses at once, allowing you to focus.
The OSSD is accepted by top universities not just in Canada but all around the world.
Our program includes full pathway support—no matter what your target university.
Our students are receiving continual support from our team of teachers, facilitators, guidance and pathway experts.
You don’t have to stay up late. We have designed the live portion of our Blended classes to fall in the afternoon East African Time.
If you are studying in the local curriculum, you can start at any grade after grade 9. But the Canada Pathway Program is mainly designed for students who have completed the local equivalent of grade 10 or grade 11.
Exams are held on the campus of Life Roots, proctored both by our team online and the in-person course facilitators.
All instruction in the Canada Pathway Program is online. We offer two online modes: Blended and Independent. (Note: Most students in this program do a mix of Blended and Independent)
Braemar Blended: Teacher-led live streamed classes (27hours per course). Join other students from around the world for classes twice per week and then work independently for the rest of the week. You can collaborate with other students, meet with the teacher during office hours. And tutors are available if you need some brushing up.
Braemar Independent: You work at your own pace independently online. Your Braemar course mentor has full access to the platform and meets with you regularly to keep you on target.
It is preferable that you sit your exams physically on the Rwandan campus. Students who live outside of Nairobi will be able to have their exams proctored online.
