No quarantine required for fully vaccinated international students

July 8, 2021

Good news!

Starting July 5th, 2021 fully vaccinated international students no longer need to quarantine when they arrive in Canada.

If you are fully vaccinated, you have a valid study permit and a negative Covid-19 test, you will not have to stay in a government-authorized hotel. However, you should show proof that you have been vaccinated by following accepted vaccines at least two weeks prior your arrival:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
  • Moderna COVID-19 vaccine
  • AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccine
  • Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine – single dose

Vaccines not currently accepted for fully vaccinated status in Canada:

  • Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C)
  • Cansino (Convidecia, Ad5-nCoV)
  • Gamalaya (Sputnik V, Gam-Covid-Vac)
  • Sinopharm (BBIBP-CorV, Sinopharm-Wuhan)
  • Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc)
  • Vector Institute (EpiVacCorona)
  • Other

The list of accepted vaccines may expand in the future.  Bear in mind that you will still need to have a quarantine plan as a contingency.

There are no changes for international students who are not vaccinated — or have received vaccines that are not recognized by the Canadian government.
